Paulien Quartet with Martin's Grill Food Truck

The Paulien Quartet will be here to get your weekend started with their incredible sounds. Featuring Paulien (vocals), Royce Campbell (guitar), Bob Bowen (bass), and Michael Elswick (sax). Performing live in our tropical paradise, Friday, November 19th, from 6 to 8:30pm. Open to all, no cover.

Bio:
Paulien’s distinctive voice has been well known in Europe since the mid-nineties from several recordings she mostly did in French. Now, she pays hommage to the Great American Song Book and classic French chanson; the perfect blend of jazz and popular French music of the 20th century.

In the Charlottesville area she performs with well seasoned local musicians, who are not just backup for the vocals, but are integral to the performance as a whole. So close your eyes, open your ears and float on her rediscovered sound from Paris.

Learn more about Paulien’s music at her website — https://www.paulien.info/

Lua Project

Join us in the tropics of Free Union for a SATURDAY EVENING treat with LUA PROJECT! Featuring Christen Hubbard on mandolin/violin, Matty Metcalfe on accordion/banjo, Dave Berzonsky on requinto/bass, Estela Knott on Jarana/Requinto, and everyone singing. Lua Project will delight us with their self described “Mexilachian Music: A blend of original & traditional music from Mexico, Appalachia, and the Atlantic Basin.” Saturday, November 20th, from 6 to 8:30pm. Open to all, no cover.

Bio:
Lua is a cultural pollinator, bridging together musical styles from different continents and different centuries. They write about contemporary themes, about families, and people and work and loss, but draw on the musical traditions of their own families’ past.

The music is inspired by Mexican Son, Appalachian song forms, Jewish and Eastern European tonalities, baroque melodic ideas, and Scotch-Irish narrative storytelling approaches. They strive to create a repertoire that constitutes new traditional music that they will be able to pass down to their children to experience, transform, and pass on.

To learn more about the music and musicians of Lua Project visit – http://luaproject.org/

…’like’ and follow them via their Facebook page at – https://www.facebook.com/luaproject

The music will likely be held inside our beautiful glass oasis – the tropical conservatory where there is spaced tableside seating. On occasion the music is held outside under the eaves of the back deck. There are plenty of outdoor seating options as well, many with firepits. All seating areas are first come, based on what is available. We also have lots of room for tailgate/picnics on the grass, also first come.
