Overdog
Jun 4 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Overdog

We’re thrilled to have Overdog returning to our slice of paradise here in Free Union. You can count on a great afternoon filled with their fantastic rock, reggae, & old time sounds, with lots of spunk and funk too! Featuring the acoustic amplified trio of Stephen Barling, Chris Leva, and Stuart Holme! Saturday, June 4th, from 2 to 5pm. Open to all. No cover.

Band Bio:
Overdog is an acoustic trio formed over a love of many different kinds of music and keeping things simple. Members Stephen Barling, Chris Leva, and Stuart Holme share their love for reggae, calypso, old time music, and the Grateful Dead in a brew that shows how music can surprisingly and easily bridge the stylistic differences between genres with joyous vocal harmonies and playful instrumental interaction. They also include a few of their excellent original songs too. Both Barling and Leva are masterful singers and guitarists and the sets usually feature them switching who sings lead on each song, providing for variety and color. Holme provides a solid accompaniment on electric bass and will play a tuneful solo or two each set to add even more variety. They always deliver an energetic set while keeping things at a volume perfectly tuned to allow conversation, but that still fills the dance floor. As these musicians play in many projects with many folks, you never know who might sit in on a few tunes or be joining them as a guest for the night. Notable guests have included percussionists Robert Jospe, Paul Rosner, Jim Gagnon, and cellist extraordinaire Brandon Collins. They’d love to have you come and enjoy their next performance!

During the warm weather season, the music may take place outdoors, under the eaves of the back deck. On occasion, and in the case of inclement weather, the music may be held inside our beautiful glass oasis – the tropical conservatory. Friday evening events are typically held in the indoor oasis. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available first come, no reservations.

Paulien’s distinctive voice has been well known in Europe since the mid-nineties from several recordings she mostly did in French. Now, she pays hommage to the Great American Song Book and classic French chanson; the perfect blend of jazz and popular French music of the 20th century.

In the Charlottesville area she performs with well seasoned local musicians, who are not just backup for the vocals, but are integral to the performance as a whole. So close your eyes, open your ears and float on her rediscovered sound from Paris.
